Mental health should not be forgotten when considering fuel poverty

We need to start thinking of mental health problems as seriously as we think about the physical problems caused by fuel poverty. Both limit the wellbeing of residents and both should be thought about equally when trying to address the fuel poverty crisis in the UK. If mental health is ignored in the conversation about fuel poverty, how can we ever hope to begin solving the steadily growing fuel poverty crisis?

The Fuel Poverty Problem

According to National Energy Action (NEA), four million households in the UK are estimated to be living in fuel poverty, unable to heat their homes to a reasonable level. The charity suggests that over the next 15 years, the cold homes crisis will cause 100,000 premature deaths, and cost the NHS up to £22 billion.
